Talley Farms Fresh Harvest

Gifts, Simmer Pots

From Edible San Luis Obispo Instead of bringing cookies or fudge around to all of our neighbors, we do something that makes the house smell delicious, looks pretty all packaged up and doesn’t threaten to clog anyone’s arteries. The kids help me assemble each little pot, tie tags on with ribbon and walk around the neighborhood knocking on our neighbors’ doors and dispensing the jars from a big basket. It’s heartwarming.

  • a couple lemon slices
  • a couple orange slices
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 3 cinnamon sticks
  • several whole cloves
  • a few fresh cranberries (mostly for looks)

Distribute ingredients among half-pint Mason jars and seal. Print (or hand write) tags and tie to each jar.

This is a simmer pot (not for eating) to make your home smell holiday-delicious! Keep this jar in the fridge until you’re ready to use it. When you are, drop the contents into a small saucepan along with a jar-full of water and bring to a simmer. Refresh with water as needed. Enjoy!
